Rogers LS4A/2 monitor loudspeakers
Award winner, offering detail and precision for the analytical listener
Founded in 1947 by Jim Rogers, Rogers International success is mostly built on the commission contract awarded by the BBC in the early 70's, for producing the LS3/5A monitor. Overall, including licensees like Spendor and Harbeth, 50.000 pairs of LS3/5A were produced, making it a fairly popular monitor.
While other products were developed, including amps, they did not spread to the same extent, and most "non BBC" production remained targeted at niche, connoisseur market.
Changing hands and management over years, let us now focus at our pair of LS4A/2. In 1989, Rogers presented a series of LS domestic loudspeakers "ready for the nineties". Super high standards, modern materials and production processes, pre-delivery pair matching, rigorous inspection, high-level range of components and construction, all those qualities happened to pay.
The LS4A was awarded "best loudspeaker of the year" by the popular "What Hi-Fi?" magazine. This LS4A/2 is the improved model.
Those awards, while reliable, may sometimes be frustrating, as the "best of the year" equipment shows often a price tag that suggests you double check you are not reading a luxury goods magazine. But in this case, no. The LS4A/2 were somehow "fairly affordable", and it is still possible today to source a good condition pair.
The listening session is nothing but bluffing. While presented as a domestic pair, the presence, the detail and imaging are at professional monitor level. The rendition is smooth, full of life, vocals, soloists and acoustic instruments are a total charm.
We matched them with a Musical Fidelity as a natural association, while the extra warmth of a vintage Sansui was also very pleasant. They were available new with Rogers matching high rise stands.
Tested, cleaned, the original grilles have been steamed for sanitation.
Original pair, matching numbers.
The black ash finish veneer is in very good condition for age as well.
Perfect working condition, see the photo gallery for cosmetic signs of patina and age.
The stands are not part of the sale.
