Hafler
Hafler was founded in 1977 in Pennsauken, New Jersey, by David Hafler (co-founder of Dynaco). Hafler focused on high-reliability MOSFET power amplifiers and preamplifiers available factory-built or in kits.
David Hafler popularized the 'Hafler Circuit', a passive surround matrix extracting ambient rear-channel information from standard stereo recordings using a third rear speaker.
Between 1977 and 1995, Hafler produced legendary MOSFET amplifiers. The DH-200 power amplifier (1978) became a benchmark for smooth musical amplification, followed by the high-power DH-500 (255W/ch) and the DH-101 preamp. Later, the XL-280 power amplifier introduced Hafler's straight-wire differential alignment test.
