Fisher
The Fisher was founded in 1937 in New York City by Avery Fisher. Originally an innovator in high-end vacuum tube receivers, Avery Fisher sold the company to Sanyo in 1969.
Avery Fisher was a major benefactor of the arts; New York's Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center was renamed Avery Fisher Hall in 1973 in his honor.
Between 1970 and 1995, under Japanese production, Fisher shifted to solid-state receivers and audio components. Key products included the Fisher 5000 and RS-1080 monster receivers (delivering over 170W/ch in the late 1970s receiver power wars) and the Studio Standard component series.
