Wharfedale
Wharfedale was founded in 1932 in Ilkley, Yorkshire, England, by Gilbert Briggs. Briggs built his first loudspeaker in his cellar in the Wharfe River valley, naming the company after the region.
Gilbert Briggs published landmark books on audio and hosted early 'live vs. recorded' concert hall demonstrations across the UK and Carnegie Hall in the 1950s.
Between 1970 and 1995, Wharfedale produced iconic bookshelf and floorstanding loudspeakers. Landmark products included the Wharfedale Linton series (Linton 3B), the Denton series, the E-series high-efficiency speakers (E70), and the Wharfedale Diamond (1981), a tiny 5-liter bookshelf speaker that launched a multi-decade budget audiophile revolution.
