Cabasse 310 Sampan loudspeakers
Early series, matching, superb condition
Cabasse was founded in 1950 by the visionary French engineer George Cabasse. Since then its products rely on 3 pillars: fidelity, transparency and sensitivity. Notable as well, a passion for sailing that will be set upfront by the consistent naming of his models after ships and vessels.
This Sampan 310 is from the first series of this successful model that started a long career in 1971. The Cabasse signature is completely present in this model: self-built components, very elaborated filter, lushious veneer that extends to the back plate.
Cabasse products of this period are very sought after and fairly rare to appear, and we understood why on the listening sessions. The reputation of Cabasse is perfectly legit: defined, transparent, analytical; but not fatiguing or brittle as some "modern" speakers putting the sense of detail upfront in their presentation.
To be considered as a large speaker with its 3-way design and the generous 30cm woofer, they are at home on almost any kind of genre, from classical, jazz, acoustic, vocals to more authoritative pop and rock. As usual, despite their large size, we recommend to use low rise stands to keep the balance natural and avoid exagerrated bass presence.
They like to be driven, but their high sensitivity may allow a modest wattage amplifier, even probably tube-based.
One of the best models of a very engaging vintage speaker from the famous brand that collectors tend to keep.
Tested, cleaned, deoxydized. Superb condition of the components, the veneer is good all round with minimal marks.
The superb woven grilles have been steamed for sanitation. We fitted banana jack in place of the 2 modest screws, they deserve good cabling.
Perfect working condition, see the photo gallery for cosmetic signs of patina and age.
The stands are not part of the sale.
