Cabasse Dinghy loudspeakers
The Dinghy series (here the 222) is a classic example of French hi-fi engineering from the golden age of audio, closely linked to the heritage of Cabasse. The brand was founded in 1950 by Georges Cabasse, a pioneer driven by a scientific approach to acoustics and a constant search for sonic realism. From the outset, Cabasse built its reputation on precision, efficiency, and musical fidelity, supplying both the consumer market and professional sound applications.
The Dinghy was introduced as a compact two-way loudspeaker aimed at delivering true high-fidelity performance in a domestic format. Designed as a bookshelf or small floor-standing speaker, it featured a two-driver configuration optimized for clarity, coherence, and dynamic response. Positioned as an ideal balance between accessibility and serious audiophile performance, it was targeting smaller living rooms.
During the 1970s, Cabasse was rapidly expanding its range and refining its acoustic technologies. For the Dinghy, the solid plywood cabinet, high sensitivity, and carefully tuned crossover made it stand out against many competitors of the era.
The listening session confirmed the good engineering behind: lively presentation, fast transient response, and natural tonal balance. An engaging balanced and musical loudspeaker, adhering to the French hi-fi typology. Choose a warm and round amplifier for the best match.
