Celestion Ditton 33 loudspeakers
Considered among the best
Ditton was the village near Ipswich were the Celestion Rola company manufactured these speakers. Under the brand Celestion, the company acquired fame by producing guitar amplifier speakers, for the British Vox among others.
Mid sized in a series where the bigger models were named 44 and 66, the Celestion Ditton 33 is a perfect example of a classic British speaker, produced from 1973 to 1979 and still rated in the "Best Hi-Fi of all time" top 100.
Responsive, sharp and neutral, with a consistent sound stage, they deserve their reputation. Marry them with a capable amplifier, install them in an open range not too close to walls, side or back, and the scene will be delightful. We insist on the amplifier matching, based on our clients feedback trying first to use their "not vintage" amplifier. Warm bass, balanced medium and precise treble will help you appreciate classical, jazz, blues, and all real instruments at their the best. They are not very keen at playing boomy, too modern compressed music. So keep your trendy Spotify playlist away, focus on the good old stuff from your vynil or cd collection. And they look absolutely wonderful without the grilles.
We had some sort of luck here, you can read over the internet that this particular model is coveted, with most owner claiming "i like them, i keep them!". While the 44 and 66, due to mainly their role as studio monitors are keeping high prices, and need a substantial amount of space (and fellow hands to help carry them into your room as they are so big and heavy…), the 33 is just the right size at a still very good value for money. An all time classic, believe us: you can't be wrong.
