Celestion DL6 Series 2 loudspeakers

The late eighties praised star

Celestion’s story began in 1924 in Hampton Wick, London, where brothers Cyril and Ralph French pioneered early cone loudspeaker designs. While the brand is world-famous for its guitar speakers (the "Greenback"), its hi-fi division—headquartered in Ipswich—became legendary for the Ditton series.

The DL6 Series Two was a direct descendant of this heritage, designed to provide a "high-end" sound at a price accessible to the average music lover. The Celestion DL6 Series Two (often referred to in enthusiast circles by its "DM" lineage) represents a high point in British budget audiophile engineering. Produced in the late 1980s (roughly 1988–1991), this model refined the successes of the original DL series, offering a more sophisticated crossover and improved cabinet damping.

Reviews from the era and modern vintage enthusiasts alike praise the DL6 Series Two for its exceptional transparency and "musical" warmth. Unlike many modern speakers that prioritize clinical detail, the DL6 is known for a smooth, non-fatiguing top end. Critics often highlight its solid imaging and surprising bass extension for a stand-mount speaker, thanks to its well-built 8-inch woofer. The Titanium tweeter is really an excellent improvement; that was also picked by Rogers for its top range Studio line.

Excellent with acoustic-driven genres, we found them great on classic rock guitars, on jazz brass and woodwind instruments, and on vocals were the combined warmth and transparency made them really standing out.

If you pair them with a punchy but neutral amplifier (like a Rotel) you can add electronic genres, where they deliver authority without mudding the spectrum.
