Dynaco A10 loudspeakers
Hafler's tiny touch
Dynaco, founded by David Hafler in 1955, earned its reputation as a pioneer of affordable, high-quality hi-fi. After the success of its tube amplifier kits, the company entered the loudspeaker market in the late 1960s with the now-legendary Dynaco A-25. Developed in collaboration with Danish engineer Ragnar Lian of SEAS, the A-25 became one of the best-selling bookshelf speakers of its era thanks to its natural sound, clever engineering, and exceptional value.
As with the earlier models, the A-10 reflects Dynaco’s international production model: engineered in the US, fitted with Scandinavian drive units, and (in early production) assembled in Denmark before shipment to the American market — globalization in its formative years.
Introduced in 1972 as a more compact alternative within the range, the Dynaco A-10 follows the same acoustic philosophy as the A-25/A-25X but in a smaller enclosure. It is a true two-way system, typically featuring a 6.5-inch SEAS woofer paired with a soft-dome tweeter. While more modest in scale than its larger siblings, the A-10 preserves the brand’s hallmark tonal balance and musicality.
Like the A-25 series, the A-10 employs Dynaco’s aperiodic loading principle — a controlled venting system using a resistive membrane. This design allows the woofer to operate with smoother impedance characteristics and more controlled bass behavior than a conventional sealed cabinet of similar size. The result is bass that is surprisingly full and well-damped for such a compact speaker, though naturally not as extended or powerful as the larger A-25/A-25X models.
Where the A-10 distinguishes itself is in its agility and coherence. The smaller woofer offers quick transient response and excellent midrange integration, producing articulate vocals and finely detailed instrumentation. The soft-dome tweeter delivers a smooth, non-fatiguing high end, maintaining clarity without harshness. The overall presentation is balanced, open, and easy to listen to for extended sessions — a characteristic Dynaco trait.
Compact yet remarkably capable, the A-10 remains a highly regarded choice among vintage audio enthusiasts who value natural tonality, intelligent engineering, and timeless design.
Finished in matt white, a respray was done.
Tested, cleaned, deoxydized.
New banana jacks were fitted to replace the two tiny, problematic connection screws.
The original linen clothing grilles are available, but a new black foam front was placed to give a high-contrast design touch with the white cabinets.
Perfect working condition, see the photo gallery for cosmetic signs of patina and age.
The stands are not part of the sale.
