EPOS M5 bookshelf loudspeakers
Great performance in a small package
Epos was founded in 1983 by Robin Marshall, known for his focus on driver integration and simple crossovers. Sold to Mordaunt-Short in 1988 and later to Creek Audio's Michael Creek in 1999, Epos gained a strong following for its well-regarded loudspeakers.
It was in 2001 under Michael Creek supervision that he Epos M5 hit the market, becoming a well-regarded bookshelf loudspeaker praised for an engaging and natural sound.
Excellent midrange clarity, detailed and delicate high frequencies, and well-defined transients are noted among reviewers. They were considered a benchmark in their price range (launched at $650/pair). The M5 features a 25mm metal dome tweeter and a 137.5mm mid-bass driver with a die-cast aluminum chassis. They also offered bi-wiring capabilities.
The M5 excels in creating a wide and deep soundstage with a lively and musical presentation. Of course it is in the territory of vocals and acoustic instruments that their realism and detail are the more enchanting. The transients uncolored midbass, and a high-level dynamic presentation completes their profile, for sure Mike Creek has designed a winner with this M5, Epos establishing a new benchmark for small bookshelf for way less than an Harbeth's ticket for example.
Matching also the home theater requirements, the speaker comes fully shielded.
To be positioned carefully on raised stands, and listened at close distance, they deliver really great performance to the analytical listener.
