KRK original RoKit Monitor passive loudspeakers
Seriously cool american surprise, in matched pair
No big news if you read here that KRK was founded in 1986 based on the initials of Keith Klawitter at Huntington Beach. If by chance you visited Huntington Beach, CA you already understood half of the story, the SoCal atmosphere one.
Klawitter was a renowed sound engineer, working mainly for Hollywood, and at some point decided that the monitors he worked with were missing something. So, next step, he designed his first monitors, toured his friends at several very reputable West Coast studios for intensive testing.
After some tuning the first KRK K-Rok monitors became a reality, and the US success was just phenomenal. Each ingredient was targeted at quality, the dedicated crossover, the funky but super engineered enclosure and the maniac selection of matching speakers with measurement tolerance of 1/10 of a dB!
The same continuous improvement was applied for his second model, the original RoKit, that we present as a matching pair here. The name RoKit is still in use today for their monitors, who are now active.
But of course, you ask yourself a question: "then what?". In fact, we asked ourselves an other question: "what if?".
We develop: great monitors, used by any notorious artist in rock, metal, funk, hip-hop… etc. home studio in the end nineties and the 2000's. But what will be our point of interest is they are passive monitors. Quickly, home studio monitors from the '90s and over will become active, for convenience. You integrate some class D amplifier in the box, plug to the console, basta. Because you are in a recording environment and not an audiophile environment.
Then comes our crazy question "what if?". Great speakers + what if… we plug them to musical audiophile amplifiers?
And we are glad to share the news: what a sound! It's punchy, detailed but also singing and musical. Wipe away the clinical feeling of your installation if you use a dry amplifier from the 2000's or over, and rediscover the early electronic home studio productions from your collection.
Of course they will not fill a ballroom or back your home parties. No no, we talk about detail, immersion, stereo image; but with a twist of elegance and warmth when paired to a vintage amplifier of choice.
A kind of bet at the start, a real surprise after testing. If you listen to trip-hop, electro, hip-hop or anything tailored in a home studio, you have to check these out.
Cleaned, tested and approved. Naturally a matched pair with consecutive serial numbers to maintain the factory quality selection.
Perfect condition, see photo gallery for signs of patina or use.
The stands are not part of the sale - positioning your pair will be an important factor for imaging.
Compact (but not light), so easy to send abroad.
