Rogers LS2/A loudspeakers

Founded in 1947 by Jim Rogers, Rogers International built much of its reputation on the contract awarded by the BBC in the early 1970s to manufacture the legendary Rogers LS3/5A. Including licensed production by companies such as Spendor and Harbeth, nearly 50,000 pairs were made, establishing it as one of the most iconic compact monitors ever produced.

While Rogers developed other products over the years, much of its non-BBC output remained aimed at a discerning, specialist audience.

In 1991, Rogers introduced a new generation of domestic loudspeakers “ready for the nineties,” among them the LS2/A. Closely related in spirit to the LS2/A2 but featuring a smaller woofer and more compact cabinet, the LS2/A was designed for listeners seeking BBC-derived accuracy in an even more space-friendly format. The reduced driver size brings notable agility and speed, particularly through the midrange, where clarity and tonal precision are paramount.

Manufactured to high standards, the LS2/A benefited from modern production techniques, strict quality control, pre-delivery driver matching, and carefully selected components. Despite this serious engineering approach, it remained relatively affordable, allowing it to reach a wider audience than many niche British monitors.

Listening impressions are genuinely impressive. Though presented as a domestic loudspeaker, the LS2/A delivers imaging, transparency, and presence at true monitor level. Bass extension is naturally more limited than the LS2/A2, yet it remains tight and articulate. Vocals, soloists, and acoustic instruments are rendered with charm, nuance, and lifelike realism — a compact speaker with unmistakably professional DNA.
