Sansui AU-505 amplifier - restored
Warm and singing
Produced between 1972 and 1974, this Sansui is really a nice piece of audiophile equipment.
Don't look specs. It has tone controls, pass filters, loudness and even a mic entry. Nothing such fancy.
Focus on the sound. Read on the web the proper owners impressions - almost all of them tell the same.
And it's just like that. The sound is full and rounded, also providing such a punch at the lower end of the spectrum, while the high frequencies are crystal clear. It reads only 25w on 8 ohms and sounds more like a 60w amp, even on hard to drive speakers.
While so mellow, it is clinically detailed however, it sounds just so right in every musical style. Black face and wood flanks are very classy, as the size is just a bit below the 43cm DIN, to make it precious and space-savvy on your mid-century sideboard.
The state for an amplifier built 50 years ago is excellent, cosmetic and functional. We noted a recent recapping in Nichicon Gold. A common failure on these models is mechanical: the headphones jack body is in bakelite, with age it tends to crack, and when it starts the entry quickly perishes. In the overall restoration and measurements mission, we asked Labo Diva to switch for a metal based jack connector.
Perfect condition, cleaned, tested and sanitized.
See the photo gallery for potential cosmetic signs of patina and age.
Easy to pack and deliver for the abroad enthusiast.
