Harman Kardon
Harman Kardon was founded in 1953 in Stamford, Connecticut, by Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon. The company created the world's first integrated hi-fi receiver (the Festival D1000) in 1954.
Sidney Harman served as Deputy Secretary of Commerce under US President Jimmy Carter in the late 1970s, temporarily stepping away from managing the company.
Between 1970 and 1995, Harman Kardon produced standout electronics and tape decks. In 1980, they introduced the Citation XX power amplifier, engineered by Matti Otala to eliminate Transient Intermodulation Distortion (TIM). Other landmarks include the hk670 receiver and the high-end HK1000 and CD491 cassette decks.
