KEF
KEF was founded in 1961 in Maidstone, Kent, England, by former BBC electrical engineer Raymond Cooke. The company was named Kent Engineering & Foundry after the metalworking firm occupying the site.
KEF pioneered synthetic driver diaphragm materials like Bextrene and Mylar, replacing paper cones with uniform synthetic polymers.
Between 1970 and 1995, KEF manufactured historic drivers and loudspeakers. KEF supplied the iconic B110 woofer and T27 tweeter for the BBC LS3/5A broadcast monitor. Standout complete speakers included the KEF Model 104aab (1976), the Reference 105 (1977) with modular driver pods, and the Reference 105/3 (1989) introducing Uni-Q coincident driver technology.
