Cambridge Audio Azur 740A amplifier
The new breed, built with a tradition of quality
Cambridge Audio, founded in 1968 in Cambridge, UK, has been at the forefront of audio innovation, blending cutting-edge technology with British design. Its debut product, the P40 amplifier, set a high standard for performance and reliability. Over decades, the company has expanded its portfolio up to modern day, gaining a reputation for delivering hi-fi sound accessible to all. Committed to "Great British Sound," Cambridge Audio emphasizes simplicity, craftsmanship, and rich, immersive audio experiences.
The Azur series look and sound typically like audiophile British integrated amplifiers must do. We are in the early 2000 decade, but the proven design and years of expertise are there. This 740A is a the top end of the range, dedicated at smooth, non-aggressive sound with plenty of clean power available. The board is clean, the heavy toroidal transformer and the overall build quality is at level with its neighbours of Musical Fidelity, Arcam and the like. Notable as well the refined speaker protection circuit CAP-5.
It excels in producing warm mids, rich bass, and light airy treble, and has the valuable options like tone direct and a pre out out, plenty of source inputs, all of them are gain-adjustable, so you can precisely set up your system to have the overall volume levelled without annoying gaps. The display is not too funky or over colored, and entry names are customisable, so you can name your cd player not just… cd.
