Best for
We find this component shines with the following musical genres:
Celestion Ditton 44 Monitor loudspeakers
Size matters (sometimes…)
The Celestion Rola company produced legendary instruments and Hi-Fi speakers from their homebase, the quiet village of Ditton. Produced from 1972 to 1979, the Celestion Ditton range represent perfect examples of what a classic British speaker can be.
With this model 44, first series, we are looking at the top of the range, and like the legendary 66, this model is the only second one to be named "monitor".
We know by heart the Ditton 33, one of our favorite speaker for vintage recordings on analog instruments and voices, so the sessions started on known territory. And the goal of the Celestion engineers appeared clearly: upscale the very good.
In terms of looks, same delicate oakwood veneer to cover the top, sides and front. And given the size of the cabinets, that's a statement.
For the listening session, we can tick all checklist boxes. Full response and homogeneity of the spectrum, transparency and air, superb imaging, rich message.
You will need room for these big and heavy speakers, and a vintage, warm and agile amplifier. But when set, you will probably appreciate them as much as we do.
Tested, cleaned, deoxydized.
Inspection allowed to spot a good surprise: Falcon Acoustics condensers. New banana jacks fitted.
