Musical Fidelity Elektra E100 amplifier
The beauty maker - restored
It is almost eccentric to consider the name of this model is Elektra E100, from a company that has named an amplifier A1, or a preamp… the preamp.
Musical Fidelity has never been extensive over technology or specifications either, information given is scarce and the figures provided are generally considered as too modest in regard of the sensation of quality and performance their products deliver.
This reflect their general philosophy: if you want to know how the E100 behaves, there is simply no substitute for listening to it.
What we did with this 1994 example. And on virtually everything we were pleased by the focused, detailed sound image. It has plenty of power to climb the most demanding orchestral transitions, and all the punch needed for rock music. The imaging is superb even at low play level, the feeling we have is that any track randomly picked seems to sound better with this amplifier.
Priced new at £600, quality rarely came cheap from high-end British brands. This example was refurbished with new quality capacitors, and a new (non-motorized) volume control, and has very good cosmetic presentation, except one light blemish on the black lacquered fascia. No remote control is present. As we had a small doubt about the preamp/amp solid wire bridging (showing very little signs of oxydizing), we replaced it by a pair of brand new quality bridge cables from AudioQuest.
We believe such an example is a rare opportunity.
Fully cleaned, and sanitized unit.
Perfect working condition, see the photo gallery for potential cosmetic signs of patina and age.
