Pioneer PL-515 turntable
simple, efficient and looking good… what else?
The Pioneer PL-515, introduced in the late 1970s, remains a highly regarded vintage turntable known for its simplicity, reliability, and warm analog sound. As a belt-driven, manual turntable, it delivers a pure, no-frills listening experience that appeals to audiophiles and vinyl enthusiasts alike.
Based on a solid plinth base made of MDF with a nice wood veneer finish, the structure offers a good resistance to vibration. The static-balanced, S-shaped tonearm allows for precise tracking and smooth operation. The platter is built on heavy die-cast aluminium which helps maintain stable speed and minimizes unwanted resonance.
Without any return function, its manual design ensures a fully hands-on vinyl experience. The large belt transmission contributes to stability and keeps the motor operation silent.
Overall, a good looking, affordable and simple turntable that focusses on playback and stands away of the gadgets.
Tested, cleaned, deoxydized.
The cartridge and stylus are brand new from Audio-Technica, the rubber feet are new, large, bronze look models.
