Tannoy Titan loudspeakers

Tannoy is one of those audio equipment brands that historically had one feet on the professional market, and one on the consumer one. To be noticed with Tannoy is their capability to make good sounding loudspeakers at any size, and configuration, will it be their landmark concentric design or the traditional multiple spreaker layout.

Traditionally, apart from the concentric models, we can qualify Tannoy as "2-way quality speakers with a twist". And we are here perfectly matching this definition.

We are in the eighties and Tannoy excels in those small changes and innovation that keep attention. This speaker belongs to their "planet series", and the most cosmology oriented ones among you already deducted that Titan being a moon and not a planet, we are talling about a small size bookshelf speaker. So British. Sporting a synthetic woofer cone, a mastered dome tweeter, this traditional two-way design needed some innovation, and this time Tannoy engineers put the concept of directivity upfront.

So, we all know that while the bass frequencies spread well in space, the higher frequencies are more directive, meaning the best reproduction of sound is attained when your ears are in the axis of the tweeter. Tannoy made a left and a right speaker, by tilting the front face some degrees inward, so that while the cabinets are parallel, the tweeter (and woofer) are oriented towards the summit of the triangle where your head is. The visual demonstration is not standing out in our pictures because the front grille is very difficult to remove easily without risk of damage. 

The session reveals good bass for size, present and defined, clarity and depth for the whole spectrum and a superior high range. The scene is detailed, the imaging very precise, nothing surprising with the monitor heritage of Tannoy.
