Thorens
Thorens was founded in 1883 in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, by Hermann Thorens, initially manufacturing mechanical music boxes and clockwork movements before moving to record players.
Thorens relocated its audio manufacturing facility from Switzerland to Lahr, Germany, in 1966, continuing its tradition of precision Swiss/German engineering.
Between 1970 and 1995, Thorens was a global benchmark for belt-drive suspended chassis turntables. Legendary models included the Thorens TD-125 (launched late 1960s and widely produced into the 1970s), the classic TD-160 (1972) with floating sub-chassis, the audiophile TD-126 MK III, and the massive TD-520 supporting 12-inch tonearms.
