JBL
JBL was founded in 1946 in Los Angeles, California, by James Bullough Lansing (who previously co-founded Lansing Manufacturing, later Altec Lansing). JBL became a powerhouse in cinema, studio, and home sound.
James B. Lansing's initials (JBL) were used to form the new company after he departed Altec Lansing in 1946.
Between 1970 and 1995, JBL made audio history across studio monitors and home speakers. The JBL L100 Century (1970), featuring a Quadrex foam grille and 12-inch woofer, became the best-selling home speaker of the decade. The JBL 4311 and 4343 four-way studio monitors dominated recording control rooms worldwide, while the Everest DD55000 (1985) set a new standard for high-end horn systems.

JBL stands for James Bullough Lansing. Their 4311 studio monitor was so omnipresent in the 1970s that more classic rock was mixed on it than any other speaker.
