Tannoy
Tannoy was founded in 1926 in London, England, by Guy R. Fountain as Tulsemere Manufacturing Company, moving to Coatbridge, Scotland.
The brand name Tannoy is a contraction of 'Tantalum-Lead Alloy', the material used in rectifiers built in Guy Fountain's early workshop. The term 'Tannoy' became a dictionary synonym in Britain for public address systems.
Between 1970 and 1995, Tannoy produced dual-concentric driver loudspeakers prized in recording studios and audiophile homes. Standout models included the Tannoy Arden, Berkley, and Cheviot featuring the HPD Dual Concentric driver, the Westminster horn-loaded floorstander (1982), and the studio monitor System 1000/1200 series.
