Technics
Technics was launched in 1965 by Matsushita Electric (now Panasonic) in Osaka, Japan, as a premium audio brand.
The name was created to signify precision technology in acoustic sound reproduction.
Technics invented the world's first direct-drive turntable (SP-10) in 1969, eliminating rubber drive belts in favor of a motor driving the platter directly.
Between 1970 and 1995, Technics achieved legendary status across turntables, amplifiers, and speakers. The Technics SL-1200 direct-drive turntable (launched in 1972, updated to SL-1200MK2 in 1979) became the universal standard for club DJs and radio stations worldwide. Other landmarks included the SP-10MK2 broadcast turntable, SE-A3 Class A power amplifier with large VU meters, and SB-7000 linear-phase speakers.
