Tannoy T115 Cambridge loudspeakers

Not in stock. We can find one pair of this series for you.

Tannoy is one of those audio equipment brands that historically had one feet on the professional market, and one on the consumer one. To be noticed with Tannoy is their capability to make good sounding loudspeakers at any size, and configuration, will it be their landmark concentric design or the traditional multiple spreaker layout.

Traditionally, apart from the concentric models, we can qualify Tannoy as "2-way quality speakers with a twist". And we are here perfectly matching this definition.

We are in 1979 and Tannoy has the money to experiment, as they are now funded by the american Harman. Going over the traditional speaker design they propose here a bullet tweeter (called also a compression driver). The purpose of a bullet design is to provide a tweeter with a heavy ferrite magnet, capable of producing loud levels, while being very clear and avoid resonance.

Associated with their new generation woofer, built with a polyolefin synthetic cone, the result is a high sensitivity loudspeaker that provides a superb sensation in a contained cabinet size.

The session reveals good bass, present and defined, clarity and depth for the whole spectrum and a superior high range. The adjustable level of the tweeter will help you to tame a potential upfront brightness. The scene is detailed, the imaging very precise, nothing surprising with the monitor heritage of Tannoy.

On the history side, two nice facts.

Tannoy is really beloved in Japan, so beloved that they received the "state of the art" award from the cult Stereo Sound magazine. You can easily imagine how high you must be appreciated as a "gaijin" to be recognized with such an award.

And, so British, the model T115 is nicknamed Cambridge, while the T125 (virtually identical in terms of rendition but with a larger woofer) is named … Oxford.

The components, the veneer and the grilles are in outstanding condition for age. While the offer seems existing, it is difficult nowadays to find really nice examples as this one.
