Rotel
Rotel was founded in 1961 in Tokyo, Japan, by Tomoki Tachikawa as Roland Electronics.
The family-owned business established a reputation for solid, high-value audio engineering.
The company renamed itself Rotel by combining 'Roland' with the name of its US distribution partner 'Martel'.
Between 1970 and 1995, Rotel manufactured high-performance amplifiers, tuners, and CD players. In the early 1980s, Rotel reworked its lineup with the RA-820BX integrated amplifier, stripped of unneeded tone controls to maximize sound quality. This was followed by the RB-981 power amp, RCD-855 CD player, and Michi high-end separate components.
